Leading Our Profession into the Future

YPS Member Programming We Need Your Input!

Over the last several years, OSMA has developed specific programming and member benefits for young physicians. This year we launched the OSMA Mentorship programming—connecting those early in their careers with more experienced members. To date, more than 30 individuals have benefited from the program. The YPS also brought the idea of providing free education about relevant professional and practice topics as part of a benefit of membership. In response, in 2023, OSMA is offering multiple live and recorded sessions throughout the year most will include CME. We are now looking for additional ideas and input on some additional member benefits we plan to add in 2023 including employment contract review, credit services and several others. If you are interested in working with the YPS section on these, let us know.

Join Other Young Physicians at the 2023 OSMA Annual Meeting

The meeting will be held in person from Friday, April 14 through Sunday, April 16 at the Renaissance Columbus Westerville-Polaris Hotel. Keep an eye on your email for more event details and important information. Registration to attend will open in January. In the meantime, YPS members can submit resolutions by March 1st.

Supporting the Mental Health of Young Physicians

A priority in OSMA's strategic plan is supporting the well-being of all physicians. However, we know that physicians in training and those early in practice have disproportionately experienced burnout during the pandemic. To address these challenges, OSMA launched the Well-Being CARE Service—a completely anonymous and free mental health assessment and referral resource. We need your help spreading the word to all of your colleagues that the service is available to every physician in Ohio. In fact, it is available to all healthcare workers! We need to help ensure that young physicians are healthy mentally and physically to best care for patients across Ohio for decades into the future.

Become an Advocate for You, Your Colleagues, & Your Patients

In 2022, OSMA heard from numerous young physicians about becoming more involved in Ohio's advocacy process. In response, OSMA has developed an Advocacy Boot Camp virtual training and will be offering it live at the 2023 Annual Meeting. Additionally, four content-specific advocacy committees have been created to provide input on major legislative and regulatory issues being debated by Ohio’s policy makers. If you are interested in learning more or becoming involved, let us know.

YPS Members Represent Ohio at the AMA Meeting in November

Your Delegation ultimately carried nine previously unconsidered resolutions from the 2020, 2021 and 2022 OSMA Annual Meetings to the AMA for consideration by the House of Delegates.

Thank You!
